Answers to the questions we get all the time
Does Nold Open needs an active internet connection to work?
We designed Nold in a way that you have an option to use it offline. You need internet connection (wifi or cellular) to activate the device, but once its activated, you don't need internet to operate Nold. You also need internet to share access with your guests. This can be done remotely on your phone or even in your browser with Nold Cloud. Your guest also needs to be online to accept the invitation and to download the key, but after that, it will work offline.
What is the range of Nold Open?
Operating range highly depends on proper installation placement. Under most circumstances, you should get at least 10 meters (30 feet). With proper placement, you can reach up to 50 meters (165 feet). We've experienced even better range when Nold was in direct sight with the phone. Please check this article, which describes how to place Nold to reach the best range.
Is there a monthly fee?
Generally - for residential users - there is no monthly charge: using Nold Open and its key sharing features is free just like our Nold Cloud service. For more advanced access control solutions, we offer a paid subscription service for managing large number of users and devices. Do I need to pair my phone with Nold Open?
We are using the latest Bluetooth protocol, which does not required direct pairing with your phone. This means that Nold works with its own application and you don't need to manually search and pair in your phone's Bluetooth settings menu.
How secure is Nold Open? Can someone hack my garage door?
It is very secure. We are using Bluetooth4.0® which is secure by default if its used correctly, but we also implemented extra encryption and safety features. Nold Open uses end-to-end encryption to secure the connection between your phone and the gate opener and we use state-of-the-art technology and follow numerous security procedures to help protect your accounts from unauthorized access. We don't want to get into the boring details, but if you have any concern, feel free to share with us at
What do I do if my phone runs out of battery?
If your phone is out of power, you will not be able to use it to open your doors. However, you can control your gates with your traditional remote control as well.
Will this drain my phone's battery?
We are using the latest Bluetooth protocol which is a power efficient technology, so the effect on your battery is minimal. You can just leave your Bluetooth turned on on your phone all the time, it won't make any difference.
Will my existing remotes continue to work?
Of course! Those people who do not have a smartphone or insist on using the traditional remote controls, they can still control the gates.
